The Masterplan
The transport and movement strategy has been updated based on ongoing work with the four authorities and the Highways Agency. It is available in detail on the Transport Report page
To reduce the need to travel and promote the use of more sustainable transport modes. To implement a state-of-the-art public transport system benefiting the eco-town and neighbouring settlements, while encouraging cycling and walking. To optimise use of existing infrastructure, minimising car use and improving accessibility for all.
An initial transport strategy was produced in January 2008. This has been refined through further modelling work, undertaken with the support of the four authorities and the Highways Agency. Eco-towns are expected to bring forward innovative transport solutions and our proposals are ambitious but deliverable. Our strategy increases travel options, providing new choices for eco-town residents and local communities, to encourage increased use of public transport and reducing the reliance on private cars for the majority of journeys.
The key elements of the strategy include: supporting the delivery of a new tram network for the city region, high quality, high frequency, convenient public transport, improved walking and cycling opportunities, incentives to reduce car use, and management systems for construction, distribution and delivery journeys.
