Community & Regeneration Reports

We would like every resident of the town to have the opportunity to partake in decisions which will affect their community

The Co-operative Group and English Partnerships are renowned for their community and regeneration work across the country .

English Partnerships believes regeneration is all about creating new and rejuvenating old communities, with high quality homes, jobs, shops, community facilities and open green space all combining to create places where people want to live and can afford to live.

English Partnerships' approach to regeneration is best demonstrated than through its National Coalfields Programme, breathing new life into over 100 former coalfield communities devastated by the pit closures in the 1980’s.  During the past 10 years English Partnerships has invested around £380 million itself and encouraged the private sector to invest more than double that amount.  They have created 16,500 new jobs, built 2,200 new homes and cleaned up over 2,000 hectares of heavily polluted industrial land, turning half of it into new public open space.

In 2007 The Co-operative Group donated over £7 million to local community projects throughout the UK including grass roots sport and community health .

What we can do for the eco-town:

  • Assist with the establishment and running of active community engagement
  • Provide complementary community facilities
  • Set up a community fund to foster the growth of special interest groups
  • Establish a Design & Development panel to ensure the eco-town is developed in line with local requirements & aspirations
  • Regenerate farmland lost to the building of the Drome in WW2
