The Eco-town for Leicestershire team are working towards complying with priority 2 of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and we are continually making improvements to achieve these guidelines.
We have published our consultation website in order to make available all of the eco-town submission materials that so far make up our bid for an Eco-town for Leicestershire. Over the next few months this will remain the best place to access all the information in relation to our bid.
The Masterplan Vision document is a very important part of this mix of information but is not the only part. Over the last few months we have produced a number of technical reports, which go into greater detail about how the modelling work for transport, employment, environment, health and governance demonstrate the town’s deliverability. We are encouraging people to read these materials before coming to an informed view and sharing their thoughts on our proposals. This is a very large project and people will need the time afforded over the few months to digest the range of published material. We are confident that the website represents the most transparent and comprehensive set of public information available for any comparable large scale project in what remains its early development stages.
Given the wealth of information available it is not always possible to provide printed copies of every piece of information. Rather it makes more sense to allow individuals to view, download or print those areas that are of most interest to them. Most central and local government consultations are now online and seek to reach the widest possible audience through this route.
However, there is a need to strike the right balance in terms of accessibility and we are happy to provide alternate versions of our website documents where there is a genuine accessibility need upon request. We have sent copies of our Masterplan vision document to local authorities including parish councils, individual councillors, MPs, select third party representative and community groups including neighbourhood and youth centres to ensure that each are able to make representations to us on behalf of the wider population that they represent. In addition, we have sent printed reference copies of our Masterplan vision document to many of the local area libraries and information centres *(listed on these pages). Libraries will often offer facilities for web access and printing facilities for those that cannot do this from home. This will mean that most people will have three engagement routes at the start of this consultation phase – either directly via the web, access at their local or rural library service or by speaking to their elected member or community representatives.
Added to this the range of other engagement opportunities that we are offering in the coming months, we are content that there are no barriers to access and that our consultation is sensitive to the environment, being paper free where there are reasonable alternatives such as providing documents to library services where they are accessible to all.
Should you have any further suggestions as to public information centres where we could send further copies of our printed Masterplan vision document we would be happy to hear from you.
